Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 2025

The short version

We collect nothing. Your files stay on your device. PDF Lab processes every file entirely inside your browser. No files are uploaded, no accounts are created, no analytics are run, and no personal data of any kind is transmitted to or stored by Actwise or any third party.

1. Who we are

PDF Lab (“PDF Lab”, “we”, “our”, “us”) is a free browser-based PDF toolset operated by Actwise, a company based in the United States. The service is available at https://pdflab.act-wise.com. Actwise’s corporate website is https://act-wise.com.

2. Scope of this policy

This Privacy Policy explains what information PDF Lab handles (or, more accurately, does not handle) when you visit and use the site. It applies to all visitors and users of pdflab.act-wise.com.

3. Information we collect

We do not collect personal information. Specifically:

  • No file data. All PDF and image processing runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Files you open in PDF Lab are loaded into your browser’s local memory only. They are never transmitted over the network to any server operated by Actwise or any third party.
  • No account information. PDF Lab does not require you to create an account, and we do not ask for your name, email address, or any other identifying information.
  • No analytics or tracking. We do not use Google Analytics, Mixpanel, Segment, Meta Pixel, or any other analytics, session recording, or behavioral tracking service. No tracking pixels, fingerprinting scripts, or advertising identifiers are loaded on any PDF Lab page.
  • No server-side logs of personal data. Standard web server access logs may exist at the infrastructure level (see Section 5 on Cloudflare below), but these are not used to track individual users and are not accessible to Actwise in an identifiable form.

4. Cookies and local storage

PDF Lab uses a very limited set of browser storage mechanisms, none of which identify you personally:

  • Cookie consent preference. If you interact with our cookie-consent notice, your preference (accepted/declined) is saved in your browser’s localStorage. This value never leaves your device.
  • No advertising or tracking cookies. We set no first-party advertising cookies and load no third-party advertising networks.

For more detail, see our Cookie Policy.

5. Third-party services

PDF Lab uses Cloudflare for DNS resolution and content delivery (CDN). When your browser loads the PDF Lab website, your HTTP request passes through Cloudflare’s network. Cloudflare may log standard connection metadata (IP address, browser user-agent, timestamp) for security and abuse-prevention purposes. This data is handled under Cloudflare’s Privacy Policy. Cloudflare has no access to any file content you process in PDF Lab because no file data is ever transmitted over the network.

We do not use any other third-party service that receives personal data, file data, or usage telemetry from your PDF Lab session.

6. Children’s privacy (COPPA)

PDF Lab is a general-purpose productivity tool. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13, consistent with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). Because we collect no personal information from anyone, there is no special data handling required for children. If you believe a child has inadvertently provided us with personal information, please contact us at legal@act-wise.com and we will address your concern promptly.

7. GDPR rights (EEA and UK users)

Because PDF Lab does not collect, store, or process personal data, there is no personal data for Actwise to provide, correct, delete, or port under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) or UK GDPR. There is no lawful basis that needs to be established, because no processing of personal data takes place.

If you have questions or concerns about your privacy rights in relation to PDF Lab, you are welcome to contact us at legal@act-wise.com. You also retain the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.

8. Data security

The most effective data security measure we take is architectural: by processing all files locally in your browser, there is no central store of user files that could be breached, subpoenaed, or inadvertently exposed. Site traffic between your browser and Cloudflare is encrypted using TLS.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. If we make material changes that affect how we handle personal data, we will take reasonable steps to notify users (for example, by posting a notice on the site). We encourage you to review this policy periodically.

Continued use of PDF Lab after a policy update constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
