Cookie Policy
Last updated: April 2025
The short version
PDF Lab does not use advertising, analytics, or tracking cookies. The only browser storage we touch is a single localStorage entry to remember your cookie-consent preference. Cloudflare may set a short-lived security cookie as part of its infrastructure protection.
1. What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files that a website places in your browser to store information between page visits. Related technologies include localStorage and sessionStorage, which store data within the browser but are not sent to the server with every request the way cookies are.
Cookies and similar storage mechanisms are commonly used for purposes ranging from keeping you logged in (functional) to measuring site traffic (analytics) to building advertising profiles (tracking). This policy explains exactly which of these categories apply to PDF Lab — and which do not.
2. What storage we use
PDF Lab uses only a single item of browser-side storage, set by our own code:
| Name | Type | Purpose | Expiry |
|---|---|---|---|
| cookie_consent | localStorage | Stores your cookie-consent preference (accepted or declined) so the banner is not shown again. | Persistent (until you clear site data) |
Important: this value is stored in localStorage, not as a cookie. It is never transmitted to any server and contains no personal information — only a simple “yes” or “no” value.
3. What we do NOT use
We explicitly do not use any of the following:
- —Analytics cookies or scripts. We do not load Google Analytics, Plausible, Fathom, Matomo, or any other analytics platform. No data about your page views, session duration, or navigation path is collected.
- —Advertising or targeting cookies. We do not run advertising and do not load ad-network scripts from Google Ads, Meta, LinkedIn, or any other provider.
- —Cross-site tracking pixels. No tracking pixels, web beacons, or fingerprinting scripts are embedded in any PDF Lab page.
- —Session recording or heatmap tools. We do not use Hotjar, FullStory, Microsoft Clarity, or similar tools.
- —Authentication cookies. PDF Lab has no user accounts, so no session or login cookies are set.
4. Third-party cookies: Cloudflare
PDF Lab’s infrastructure is protected by Cloudflare. Cloudflare may set a short-lived security cookie in your browser as part of its bot-detection and DDoS-protection systems. This cookie does not track you across websites and is not used for advertising or analytics purposes.
The most common Cloudflare security cookie is __cf_bm, which expires after 30 minutes. You can read more about how Cloudflare uses cookies in Cloudflare’s Cookie Policy.
No other third-party services load cookies or scripts on PDF Lab pages.
5. How to manage or delete cookies and local storage
You can clear cookies and local storage at any time through your browser’s developer tools or privacy settings. The steps vary by browser:
- —Chrome / Edge: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data → See all site data and permissions → search for pdflab.act-wise.com → Delete.
- —Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data → Manage Data → search for pdflab.act-wise.com → Remove Selected.
- —Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data → search and remove.
Blocking or deleting the cookie_consent localStorage entry will simply cause the consent banner to reappear on your next visit. It will not affect any PDF Lab functionality. Blocking Cloudflare’s __cf_bm cookie may trigger additional security challenges on some pages.
You can also configure most browsers to block third-party cookies by default. Because PDF Lab does not rely on any third-party cookies for its functionality, enabling this setting will not impair the Service.
6. Changes to this policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected in the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
